The link between psychoanalysis and politics is an extremely interesting and important one which has not, it has to be said, been fully or fruitfully mined. Of course, as Freud suggested, both are 'impossible professions'. It is impossible to analyse, to govern (and to teach). The contribution psychoanalysis can make to politics and political philosophy is a truly immense yet subversive one because psychoanalysis possesses a radical theory of human nature and this has obvious political implications.…
